There is a volunteer opportunity waiting for you at the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA). Our volunteers share in the Mission of the VNA and are a vital part of our agency. They contribute valuable assistance to support health care in our community. When you volunteer, you see first-hand how the VNA of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky is helping to improve lives and create lasting change in our community.

Current Hospice Volunteer Opportunities

  • Bereavement Volunteer – These volunteers assist the Bereavement Coordinator by providing follow-up support and contact with families whose loved one has died. This includes making phone calls, sending notes and may also help with the facilitation of support groups.
  • Complementary Therapy Volunteer – This is done by volunteers who have s specialized training in Complementary therapies such as Healing Touch massage therapy, Reiki, music therapy, pet therapy or other modalities. Certification in the specific modality is required.
  • Direct Care Volunteer – This volunteer visits the patient/family on a regular basis until the patient’s death. The volunteer provides support services which may include but are not limited to: companionship (visiting, reading to, letter writing, playing games such as cards, chess, backgammon, going on outings or for walks, providing emotional support), short-term respite care (stays with patient to relieve caregiver for short periods), shopping assistance, meal preparation or assistance, light housekeeping (dusting, vacuuming, taking out trash, water plants, do dishes).
  • 11th Hour Volunteer – This volunteer is assigned to patients who are actively dying to provide support to patients/families. The volunteer is contacted on an as needed basis and may be asked if they can help with various activities outside of normal visit hours.  Additional training is required.
  • Special Events Volunteer – This volunteer assists the VNA staff with special events such as speaking engagements, fundraising, and event promotion.
  • Other services are utilized based on the volunteers gifts and skills and client and family needs and interests.
